Second to None': Preserving History with the Coldstream Guards.

The Heroes in Focus Foundation is proud to have funded an extraordinary series of portraits featuring The Coldstream Guards, one of the most iconic regiments in British military history. These portraits, masterfully captured by Rory Lewis, have been donated to the National Army Museum in London, preserving the legacy and valor of those who serve in the British Armed Forces.

The Coldstream Guards, established in 1650 as part of the New Model Army during the English Civil War, hold the unique distinction of being the oldest continuously serving regiment in the British Army. Their storied history includes swearing allegiance to King Charles II in 1660 and serving as stalwart guardians of the monarchy ever since. Today, the regiment fulfills two critical roles: as a highly trained Infantry unit and as a ceremonial battalion tasked with state and royal ceremonial duties. Their motto, “Nulli Secundus” or “Second to None,” reflects their enduring commitment to excellence.

This exceptional photoshoot took place at the historic Wellington Barracks in London, where Rory Lewis captured the Guardsmen in moments of both precision and pride. The portraits showcase their dual identities—ceremonial splendor and operational readiness—while embodying the British Army’s core values of selfless commitment, loyalty, integrity, discipline, and courage. These images highlight the timeless spirit of the regiment as it draws strength from its heritage to face the challenges of the future.

By donating these portraits to The National Army Museum, the Heroes in Focus Foundation ensures that the history and sacrifices of the Coldstream Guards are preserved for generations to come. These works not only celebrate the regiment’s remarkable legacy but also serve as an educational tool, inspiring audiences to reflect on the dedication and bravery of those who serve.

The Heroes in Focus Foundation extends its mission beyond borders, capturing the stories of service personnel worldwide. By building a lasting archive of military portraiture, we aim to bridge the gap between civilian and military communities, fostering empathy and understanding through art and storytelling.

We invite you to join our mission. Your donation can help us continue to honor and preserve the legacies of heroes in uniform from all walks of life. Together, we can ensure their stories inspire future generations and that their sacrifices are never forgotten.
