Field Marshal Lord Houghton Portrait Acquired by The Green Howards Museum
A proud moment for military portraiture and remembrance — The Green Howards Museum has formally acquired Rory Lewis’s portrait of Field Marshal The Lord Houghton of Richmond. The acquisition, made possible through Heroes in Focus, Rory’s non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving the likenesses of British, American, and Allied service personnel, underscores the project’s growing international scope.
Captured in London in October 2025, the portrait forms part of Heroes in Focus — an ongoing visual archive celebrating courage, duty, and leadership across nations. Through his distinctive chiaroscuro lighting and classical influences, Rory Lewis draws on the traditions of Holbein and Lawrence to create portraits that are both timeless and human, connecting military history with contemporary artistry.

The Green Howards Museum, based in Richmond, North Yorkshire, is home to over 35,000 artifacts spanning three centuries of regimental history. It celebrates the service and sacrifice of soldiers through storytelling, exhibitions, and education — ensuring that their legacies of loyalty, discipline, and camaraderie continue to inspire.
“It’s deeply meaningful to see Field Marshal Houghton’s portrait preserved within The Green Howards Museum,” said Rory Lewis. “Through Heroes in Focus, my mission is to document not only the British Army but also our American and Allied partners — those who have served together in the cause of freedom and humanity.”
The Green Howards Museum remains a beacon of remembrance, bridging the stories of the past with the present. Visitors can explore its extensive collection and now, among them, this remarkable portrait — a visual testament to leadership and service.
The museum is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4:30pm (closed Wednesday 8 October).
And above all, we’ll remember them.
